The Last Dragon by Jane Yolen, illustrated by Rebecca Guay

Those of you who know me know some pretty specific things about me. One of them being that I just CANNOT pass up a pretty book. This past weekend, I visited Vintage Phoenix Comics in Bloomington, IN, with my hubby and some friends and I passed this particular beauty on the shelf, the last of its kind existing there. I grabbed it up and immediately flipped through it. And I fell in love with the art. Don’t even know the story yet but it was a Plucker moment and I couldn’t pass it up.

Explanation? Oh, certainly!

Several years ago, my husband handed me a large, hardback book while we were in a Half-Price Books in Indianapolis. It was called The Plucker, written and illustrated by the artist Brom. I flipped through it and fell in love with the art. Bought right away, read it in a few days. The Last Dragon gave me a Plucker moment in the story – one of those moments when you don’t care what it is or what it says, it just HAS to be yours.

I love Jane Yolen’s work. I loved Girl in a Cage and Queen’s Own Fool. She is a beautiful writer. I plan on beginning this story today and we’ll see how long it takes me. šŸ™‚

1:47pm, 3/19/2012 – Well, that didn’t take long at all. A simple, beautiful story to accompany such gorgeous art. Tansy is lively and lovely, her sisters, providing a wonderful offset to her character. It is the stuff of bedtime stories and moments for one’s self.
